How to Earn Avios…
So hot on the heels of my last travel blog, here are a few more details as to how best to get your hands on some Avios!
There are many ways to accumulate Avios, which are the currency you can then spend on British Airways flights, and in the case of European flights, use them to fly to Europe for as little as £1 plus some Avios (please see my previous blog, sign up for my free newsletter and check out my videos on this subject on Insta @alisoncork_home or Tik Tok @alisoncorkliving).
Here are some of the ways in which in I collect Avios. I have listed the easiest and most obvious ways to collect Avios, ways that should fit seamlessly into your existing spend pattern. What you want to avoid is getting carried away and buying things you don't need just to collect Avios!
So here are my regular Avios 'channels':
My British Airways Amex credit card - this gives me Avios on all spend - typically 1 Avios per £1 spent (annual card fee often applies) - there are several of these available so take a look on the Amex website - the Amex gold credit card has no annual fee
My Barclaycard Avios Mastercard credit card - this also gives me Avios on all spend - and no annual card fee
I have signed up to transfer all my Sainsburys Nectar points to Avios - this now happens automatically on all Sainsburys spend
Avios on Uber rides
Additionally - which I don’t do much of:
Buying petrol at BP and converting BPme rewards points
You can also earn Avios on all BA flights booked, as well as BA holidays and hotels
Renting cars and taking the Heathrow Express can earn Avios, but these are less likely to be regular so not on my own list
Completing surveys for market research firms
There is another way to earn free Avios, and that is by taking advantage of the introductory offers offered by American Express and Barclaycard - so when you open a new CC account with them, they give you various Avios sign up bonuses. Again, take a look at the Amex and Barclaycard websites.
Introducing a friend to sign up for an Amex credit card, which can net you several thousand Avios as a reward.
So bottom line, it takes a little bit of setting up, but the Avios do start to accumulate before you know it, and then you can have all sorts of fun with them.
