Fly Away for £1

A travel hack I have made really good use of in recent years is the British Airways £1 travel offer. Not too many people seem to know about this, so here goes.

If you have Avios, which can be collected through an Amex card or Barclaycard that gives Avios (not all cards do, but the card details will stipulate clearly if they do), then you can book flights using the ‘book with avios’ tab on the BA website. To do this you also need to become a member of the British Airways Executive Club - this is free to join. Most people know this.

But what people don’t seem to know as much, is that if you are flying anywhere in Europe, you can book a flight for just £1 plus avios . The number of avios required will vary depending upon the destination, but it’s typically around 12,000. It also depends upon availability, but if you are booking in advance (which I always try to do) and especially if your destination is not one of the most popular ones, then you can often get flights.

To put the avios numbers in context, if you introduce a new card member to Amex they will give you 9000 avios immediately, and you can earn between 1 and 3 avios per £1 spent on the card. So they can add up quite quickly.

This year I have already booked several flights this way, including Slovenia, Istanbul, Latvia and other destinations - so it does work.

Really worth looking into, because it greatly reduces travel costs and you feel that your credit card spend is just working that bit harder for you.

Bon Voyage!
